TRUE HEROISM OF NO PROPORTION

"Benigno Aquino (1933-1983) of the Philippines was a leading opponent of the rule of President Ferdinand Marcos. His opposition ended in August 1983 when, after living in exile in the United States for three years, he returned to Manila and was gunned down at the airport. His death precipitated massive demonstrations against President Marcos."

Benigno S. Aquino, Jr.,was born on November 27, 1932, in Tarlac Province, on the island of Luzon, to a prominet family. Ninoy was destined to become a political leader. He traced his lineage from people who have worked with some of the country's well-known leaders. Gen. Servillano Aquino (Camp Aquino in Tarlac was named after him), his grandfather, became a general of the Philippines' first president, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. Benigno Aquino, Sr., his father, served under President Manuel L. Quezon and became a Speaker of the House during Jose P. Laurel's presidency.

In 1949, Ninoy became a presidential adviser on defense to then President Ramon Magsaysay. Under this capacity, he successfully negotiated the surrender of Hukbalahap (a communist insurgency group) leader Luis Taruc. His ambition and energy stood out early when, at age seventeen, he was sent by the Manila Timesnewspaper to report on the Korean War (1950–53). The war was between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and the Republic of Korea (South Korea), and was a war in which the United States and China eventually joined.

In 1955, Ninoy became mayor of his hometown (Concepcion, Tarlac) at the age of 22 - setting a record as the youngest mayor. During that same year he also married the late President Corazon Aquino, with whom he eventually raised five children. His mayoralty post paved the way for his later successes in politics: in 1959 he became the youngest vice-governor of the Province of Tarlac, and then in 1961 he became the governor. Yet again in 1967, he set a record by becoming the youngest senator at the age of 34, when he ran under the banner of the Liberal Party.

Ninoy was known as the "Wonder Boy of Philippine Politics." While in the Senate, he exhibited his fiery eloquence and became President Ferdinand Marcos's most vocal critic by exposing the excesses of the administration. Ninoy's accomplishments in the Senate and his most famous exposes, such as the 1968 Jabidah Massacre (the killing of about 60 Filipino-Muslims who were being trained for an operation authorized by Marcos to claim the island of Sabah from Malaysia), the 50-million peso construction of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) - which Ninoy called a "monument to shame" and the "most scandalous misspending of national funds" - and the plan to impose martial law known as "Oplan Sagittarius," quickly put him on the national spotlight.

Martial Law in the Philippines

On September 21, 1972, Marcos declared martial law. Ninoy and other opposition leaders, like human rights lawyer Jose W. Diokno, were be put to jail. Marcos implicated Ninoy as the mastermind of the Plaza Miranda bombing a year before - where a bomb exploded during a campaign rally of the opposition Liberal Party - allegedly to remove his rivals within the party. He also branded him as a communist. To protest martial law and the military commission which tried the false charges (subversion, illegal possession of firearms and murder) against him, Ninoy fasted for forty days and forty nights. But Ninoy was still convicted by the commission and sentenced him to death by firing squad. But the sentence against Ninoy was not carried out.

After seven years and seven months of military confinement, Ninoy suffered a heart attack and was allowed by Marcos to go to the United States to have a heart bypass surgery. After recovering, Ninoy stayed with his family in Boston, Massachussets. He was granted a fellowship at the Harvard University and Massachussets Institute of Technology. Ninoy also continued his advocacy by speaking in various forums against the Marcos dictatorship. His most unforgettable speech, which showed his brilliance and eloquence, was in Los Angeles in 1981.
Ninoy's unforgettable speech

Assassination of Ninoy
Ninoy decided to return to the Philippines after three years of self-exile in the United States. Since Marcos instructed consular offices not to issue him a passport, Ninoy secured a passport under the nom de guerre Marcial Bonifacio. As a precaution Ninoy wore a bullet-proof vest under his white safari shirt, but he acknowledged - and foreboded - that the vest won't be much of a help if his head becomes the target. When asked about the threat of assassination, Ninoy defiantly answered, "If it's my fate to die of an assassin's bullet, so be it."
After the airplane carrying Ninoy touched down in Manila on August 21, 1983, Philippine military personnel boarded the plane and escorted him out. A few seconds later, passengers in the airplane heard several gun shots rang out and saw the body of Ninoy lying on a pool of blood on the airport tarmac as aviation security personnel fired shots on Rolando Galman, who was lying near Ninoy. Ninoy was felled by an assassin's bullet on the back of his head.
Marcos swiftly launched an investigation, but only after he was ousted from power that a court found Ninoy's military escorts as the perpetrators. To this day, however, the mastermind of Ninoy's assassination remains unknown.

People Power Revolt
The death of Ninoy sparked widespread opposition against Marcos and massive protest rallies continuosly poured on the streets. Marcos, who by then was already serving as president for two decades, called a snap presidential election to calm the opposition. The opposition fielded Ninoy's wife, Cory Aquino, as its standard bearer. During the counting of votes, Marcos emerged with a wide lead against Cory until several election personnel walked out of the canvassing proceedings and revealed massive rigging of the election results. People and opposition leaders started massing into the streets in huge numbers demanding the ouster of Marcos. Eventually Marcos and his family fled to safety and lived in exile in Hawaii.
Cory Aquino became president and restored democracy in the Philippines by removing vestiges of the Marcos dictatorship.

IF ONLY, Love...

Ian Wyndham: I Love you.
Samantha Andrews: Ooh I Love you too.
Ian Wyndham: I wanna tell you why I love you.
Samantha Andrews: It's... It's raining, you know that right.
Ian Wyndham: I have to tell you this and you need to hear it. I loved you since I met you, but I wouldn't allow myself to truly feel it until today. I was always thinking ahead, making decisions soaked with fear... Today, because of you... what I learned from you; every choice I made was different and my life has completely changed... and I've learned that if you do that, then you're living your life fully... it doesn't matter if you have five minutes or fifty years. Samantha if not for today, if not for you I would never have known love at all... So thank you for being the person who taught me to love... and to be love.
Samantha Andrews: I don't know what to say.
Ian Wyndham: You don't have to say anything... I just wanted to tell you.  (Famous lines in IF ONLY, movie)

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two." -St. Augustine

TO LOVE is a beautiful, mysterious event; do not miss it. Be neither too cautious nor too absorbed. Too many of us reason with our hearts and experience with our heads. It cannot be so. The heart knows no logic beyond need and desire; the head has no senses except the common and the pragmatic. Neither, frankly, is useful in love anyway. Rely on your sixth sense, that little voice within. There is no preparation for or protection from the joy and pain of relationships. They are inseparable twins. One follows another. And make no mistake, love is not gay abandon; it is to be courageous, to take risks and be disciplined. :)

You can't filter perfectness, but you can filter wrongs and faults;
no one ever said love was perfect.

MILES AWAY? I don't care.

I have putted all my thoughts trying to answer the question you are asking me my love. Why do I love You? After thinking about it, more and more questions come up into my head, questions such as: why do YOU love me? And then, Why do I love you? Why do You miss me so much? After that, why do I miss you so much?  Why do YOU think so fucking much about ME every night before You go to sleep?  Moreover, Why do I think so fucking much about You every night before I go to sleep?

The reason why I love you is because you complete my life. MY LOVE, you make me laugh even for the slightest subject we talk about.  Even though you live and, I know, you live miles, many millions miles away from me, however, every time I talk to you, It does not matter if it is at night or day, I feel you next to me, I feel you taking care of me, like an angel, I feel you are next to me in everything I do, when I am at school or when I'm reading, when I play the drums, when I am eating, when I am taking a shower.

I have putted so much effort in this relationship and I know that you are doing the same exactly thing as well. If I explain the particular reason why I love you, I should start writing a book right now. =)

I was afraid to tell you that I am a Satanist because I did not know how your reaction would be. The media and some religious people have portrayed Satanist people as person that love the sweet taste of BLOOD, people whom are crazy to kill every human being in this planet. The media have portrayed them as Irrational people. I am not anything of that. I am a Satanist in a different sort of way, through philosophy. I will never hurt ANYONE. I respect people; I love my family, my friends, nature, and animals, I LOVE YOU!! I Will NEVER EVER HURT YOU. The only thing I do is that I do not believe in any superior or metaphysical thing. I believe in love, tolerance, and respect. I hope you accept me the way I am.

Baby, you see that link at the end of this letter? Yes…. That song is for you, I dedicated to you. I want you to read every word the song says because this song is for you with all my love. Well, is in Spanish but it has English subtitles so you  will able to understand it. I hope you like my love.

I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART, ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT.

Always Yours:

45 days; TRAINING

MAPFRE INSULAR; MY TRAINING ON-THE-JOB PROGRAM

       I.   INTRODUCTION
The primary role of the Legal and Recovery Department is to provide legal advice to the High Representative and to the departments and units within the Office of High Representative, in particular on issues involving the interpretation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace. Also analyses draft legislation and play a key role in the provision of legal service for all other Office of the High Representative Departments. Due to the important role of constitutional and legal arguments in the political and economic life of Mapfre Insular, the Department also takes an active role in developing new solutions. To this effect, it works closely with domestic institutions at all levels of government and legal drafting process. The department initiates litigation in case of court examinations, and the legal staff members are responsible for creating and enforcing ordinances and gathering existing claims in favors of the company. The staff of the Legal and Recovery Department includes lawyers’ expert and it is divided in Units specialized in particular fields of law.
Legal and Recovery Department, is also responsible for maintaining legal materials, producing periodic reports on the status of pending legislation and debt recovery.

            II. NATURE OF WORK
The usual thing I used to do at work is sorting and filing thousands of bonds and secretary certificates, writing in Notarial Book or we called it “Bluebook”, typing some agreements, deliver documents, the “NIIS”, Registered Mail and Courier  and one thing assigned to me that I know other trainee experienced it to is to “Xerox”.
Among this projects assigned to me, I could probably say that sorting and filing was the most difficult thing to do. To arrange it from dates and descending order of the document number wasn’t really an enjoyable thing to do. Especially when I am the only trainee doing it, because my partner finished already the number of hours required in OJT. So then, I don’t have any choice but to do it alone. Giving time to it, focus and being dedicated is what I did. It took us 2 to 3 weeks I guess to finish it and it took me about 3 days to finish the remaining documents. The coverage of the bonds and certificates we sort and file is from September of 2010 to January 2011.
Writing in Bluebook wasn’t a joke too. Especially in my case, I’m not a fan of writing something I don’t enjoy. Write and then stamp, write and then stamp. Repeated assigned work caused boredom. But take note, I finished three bluebook and I am proud of it. Like I need to go to the person who is written there, and they need to sign it. Isn’t it a good job? Seeing your finished work and seeing persons signing it? Nothing compares to the gladness I’m feeling.
Delivering of documents is not also an easy thing to do. I am so shy in going somewhere just to give a piece of paper/documents. But doing it for so many times, it boost my confidence. And I’m thankful to Atty. Co and Ms. Ramos for asking that favour to me.
Doing Registered Mail and for Courier, was very easy. The mail is about the demand letter given to a specific person that they need to pay the damages, etc. I just have to fold the paper and put it inside the envelope. Very easy work assigned.
And lastly, to Xerox lots of documents is enjoyable. But it is also the most tiring thing to do. That you are just standing, you cannot sit because it is a one by one process.
But above all of this assigned work to me, I enjoyed all of it, a lot!

III.            LEARNING
First of all, OJT is one method by which students is given a chance to apply the theories and computations that they have learned from the school. And because of this, it helps me acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting.
By the time I was assigned in Recovery and Legal department, It comes to my mind that I have to give my best, and act as professional though I’am only a trainee.
I have many goals that I have set for myself over the course of my life.   Most of these goals I have set for myself, I have achieved with hard work and dedication.
In 45 days of having my On-The-Job-Training in Mapfre|Insular, I’ve learned so many things already. I distinguish the functions of different sections, department and divisions which we are required to do so. I already define what the organization expects in terms of work and behaviour. I should say now that, I am more of comfortable and flexible in handling papers that’s rush. Confidence is really important and how you interact with other people. Especially handling clients that have lots of question about the letter they’ve received and how are they going to pay. Respect is very important. Especially in answering phone calls, you have to say “po” and “opo” because you don’t know if you are already talking in one of the boss. This is my day-to-day living in office. Atty. Co and Ms. Ramos was the one who act as my teacher. They taught me how to treat people, as I wanted to be treated.
Work ethics is really important in a company. People are expected to act in a right way, talk in a right way. We wanted to be treated right, so then, we should treat other people the right way. And being part of Mapfre|Insular, I should build my future by using my personal capabilities, be professional and earn respect.
This, after all, was and is the best experience anyone can have. “Experience is the greatest teacher.”

          IV.  CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
In 45 days of staying in Mapfre Insular as a trainee, is a privilege. To be part of their family feels like floating in the air.  This is merely not by chance but a choice and destiny. As a trainee, I therefore conclude that, not everything in this world is easy to achieve.  Today's work place is very competitive. But we don't have to be competitive at the expense of others but as way of bringing improving the life of everybody around us because when you improve things you improve them for everyone. The world is more 'connected' than ever before. You just need to have a variety of skills that will give you the competitive edge you need to succeed.
Good listening skills makes me more productive and help get along better with others, and allow me to work better in a team-based environment. Knowing how to use computer is very important. Focus on moving forward with a hunger for improving upon yourself. Be your biggest competitor and at the very least, you will become better at what you do.
To be a friend and to have friends is one of the noblest goals for which we can aim. I could say that, I earned friends, true friends. We share a lot of things. We get along though we have lots of differences.
I think I don’t have any recommendation to Mapfre Insular just to improve their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Because there’s nothing wrong in the way they interact with other people and how they face problems.
What I wanna say is, Thank you to Mapfre Insular family for making me one of their interns and showing me how corporate world works. Having a family that would teach you a lot of things that’s very useful is a blessing. It’s not for them, but for me, for us. For us to achieve what we want in future.
      Thank you Mapfre Insular Family!
